The violence series is an experiment in three dimensional conceptual art. These pieces have all been shot by guns while still above 2000 degrees Fahrenheit. The strength of molten glass allowed Mark to use this medium as a commentary on the effects of violence, capturing a moment and freezing it in time.
Imagine a person striking you in the face. Eventually your physical damage will heal; but contrary to appearances, there is psychological damage that remains long after, perhaps forever.
These once beautiful vases are obviously damaged, and even distasteful to many, but how can we as a society afford to discard everything that's been damaged? How many people would be left in your life? Would you yourself remain?
This series not only challenges us to find the grace to embrace the beauty that remains despite damage, but also to find the strength to face the trials of life without damaging those who surround us.
